The Hickory Moose Story

Every venture has a story.  Ours is no different.  Our owners, Steve Kovey and Ray Bergman, have been best friends for some fifty odd years.  They have talked about going into business together since they were small boys.  Even then they both had a passion for design and an interest in building things.  They liked things that they could be held in their hands, that looked great and worked great. Once they grew up, they both moved in different directions.  Steve studied engineering and went to work as a product designer and eventually started and owned several manufacturing businesses, including a furniture manufacturer. Ray went to school and studied finance, worked in the banking industry, but eventual decided he preferred working with hands.  He eventually started and owned his own remodeling company, furniture repair company and marine canvas manufacturing company.

In 2016, they finally got together to live their dream of building a business together (better late than never!).  Some things haven't changed.  They still have a passion for high quality, producing beautiful and useful products.  They share a philosophy about building their business with certain values, like best product possible in order to grow through happy customer's word of mouth.  under promising and over delivering.  treating customers like family - making each buying experience so satisfactory that our customers become advocates.  Producing products that enhance our customer's home and lifestyle.  Products that will proudly be handed down to the next generation. Enter Hickory Moose Manufacturing.

Having said all this, we do not build our products on an assembly line. Every Hickory Moose product is hand made by our craftsmen in a small shop in Brownsburg, Indiana USA.  (not a big place, but we call it home)   Our raw goods are carefully selected for the highest quality. We buy local and "Made in USA" whenever possible. Every product is designed by us, made by us and inspected by us before it leaves our shop.

We genuinely hope that you will enjoy owning our furniture as much as we enjoy building it. Thank you for taking your time to find our site and our company.  Now how can we serve you?

Why Hickory?

Hickory is well known for its stability and hardness and ability to withstand wear and tear. We make our products of carefully selected hickory saplings and our table tops of solid hickory with a rough bark edge and finish them with a beautiful clear polyurethane. Each board and sapling is harvested from the woods of Tennessee and then kiln dried. We take each piece of hickory and work it by hand until it fits perfectly into the finished product.

Our products are are designed to be timeless, are made to last and to be handed down from one generation to another. Due to the natural variations in the hickory construction we use, every product is unique. It is this variability that gives our products their charm and character. Our finishes are hand applied by skilled craftsmen with a fine eye for detail.

We like to refer to our quality as Heirloom built.
